The Install Pop-Up Exhibition Series
Prior to the pandemic, The Future Is Us originally functioned as a series of pop-up exhibitions that we documented as “Installations.” We hosted over 10 Installations that invited artists as young as 15 to showcase and sell their work for the evening at no cost to participating artists. Through the installations, we’ve created safe and accessible places for Philadelphian teens to gather in community. As a part of these installations, we hosted film screenings, artist talks, and open mic performances for young Philadelphians.
In celebration of our 5th anniversary, we hosted our first Installation exhibition for the first time since 2020, this 1 week exhibition celebrated young Philadelphian artists of color and was curated by our Lead Curator Isa Matisse. The 5th Anniversary exhibition concluded with a closing reception artist talk. During this conversation, showcasing artists Riley Gosnell, Ziera Nelson, Ali Islam, and Justin J Keller discussed their creative practices and curator Isa Matisse shared insight on their curatorial process. This conversation was emceed by Director Laila Islam.
With in-person events accessible again, we plan to host 4 exhibitions throughout the upcoming calendar year.
